“[Get On Down] has been slowly redefining the role and shape of the reissue in the digital age.”
– The New York Times
“A premiere reissue imprint.”
We are a Boston-based record label and premium online boutique offering an eclectic array of products, from deluxe music reissues on vinyl, cassette and CD, to apparel and pop culture artifacts. Get On Down titles are distributed globally by Traffic Entertainment Group.
Established in 2010, our label has over 150 titles in its always-expanding catalog, ranging from hip-hop classics by Common, Run-DMC, Ol’ Dirty Bastard, Souls of Mischief, Ghostface Killah, Raekwon, GZA, The Pharcyde, Jurassic 5, Afrika Bambaataa and Non-Phixion to rock, punk, dance, soul and reggae essentials by James Brown (and his People Records stable), Bo Diddley, Sly & The Family Stone, Howlin’ Wolf, Zapp, Arthur Russell, TAANG! Records, Harry Nilsson, Lee “Scratch” Perry and King Tubby. We have also gained a great deal of attention for our Wild Style Breakbeats seven-45s “casebook” set (in collaboration with Kenny Dope’s Kay-Dee Records) and Joe Mansfield’s Beat Box: A Drum Machine Obsession book from late 2013, our first foray in the publishing world.
Since its launch, Get On Down has garnered worldwide praise from media and fans alike, and remains one of the most popular and sought-out labels for our yearly Record Store Day offerings. FACT magazine has called us “The Hip-Hop Box Set Kings,” and we were given an “Adapter Award” by the Record Store Day organization (for “Record Store Day Release of the Year” in 2013, for our GZA Liquid Swords Chess Box). The New York Times also chose our Souls of Mischief 93 Til Infinity Deluxe as one of its two best hip-hop reissues of 2014.
In the modern age of file-sharing and non-stop media overload, Get On Down offers an important alternative to disposable music culture. We are focused on enhancing the way people experience music, and we believe that our customers want to connect with tangible product that they can hold in their hands, and keep forever. Our A & R philosophy is very simple: we only release projects that we, as music fanatics, would purchase ourselves.
Our online boutique was launched in 2012 and operates with a strong “anti-big-box store” aesthetic, dedicated to carefully curating a premium product mix for independent-minded customers around the world. GetOnDown.com features items from our label along with unique non-label offerings, including apparel, DVDs, t-shirts, books, and other pop culture artifacts.
Get On Down never loses sight of our promise to deliver exceptional service to our customers. Since the company warehouses and ships the entire product line offered on GetOnDown.com itself, you can expect ultra-quick turnaround and constantly-updated online site inventory, as well as personable and responsive customer service.
