energy-control-center-cd
Energy Control Center (2xCD)

Revolutionary, spiritual jazz from the unlikely city of Houston, Texas: the definitive issue, mastered from the original tapes. Bonus disc contains previously unreleased tracks. Drummer, bandleader, and activist Bubbha Thomas had toured America with R&B revues, served as a session musician for Peacock and Back Beat Records, and played straight-ahead jazz with legends before the political and social upheaval of the late 1960s led him to a path first charted by Coltrane. Energy Control Center, his third LP with his Lightmen band is his masterpiece: deep-set, maverick jazz on part with the best Tribe and Strata East titles. This is a highpoint amongst the best of the 1970s jazz underground, a collective voice of resistance to the musical and cultural status quo. Contains second disc with bonus tracks: unreleased alternate takes, including two versions of the spiritual jazz classic "All Praises To Allah", all housed with an extensive booklet with photos and liner notes.

Tracklist:

1-1 The Lightmen Plus One– Wench
1-2 The Lightmen Plus One– Blues For Curtis
1-3 The Lightmen Plus One– Cold Bair
1-4 The Lightmen Plus One– Energy Control Center
1-5 The Lightmen Plus One– Leo
1-6 The Lightmen Plus One– Jupiter's Child
1-7 The Lightmen Plus One– The Phantom
2-1 The Lightmen Plus One– Leo (Alternate)
2-2 The Lightmen Plus One– All Praises To Allah (Alternate)
2-3 The Lightmen Plus One– Cold Bair (Alternate)
2-4 The Lightmen Plus One– The Phantom (Alternate)
2-5 The Lightmen Plus One– All Praises To Allah (7" Single Version)
2-6 The Lightmen Plus One– Me
2-7 Thomas Meloncon– Ain't Gonna Wait Too Long
2-8 Thomas Meloncon– Bullets Of A Gun
2-9 Thomas Meloncon– Waiting On Your Mind
2-10 Thomas Meloncon– 400 Years
