Description
6xLPs on Black Vinyl covering Tommy Boy's catalog from 1982- 2001 with biographical liner notes from veteran hip hop journalist and author Kathy Iandoli.
Tommy Boy Records was founded in NYC in 1981 and released 12-inch singles and full length albums in the early days of Hip-Hop by Afrika Bambatta & The Soul Sonic Force, Force MD's and Prince Paul's first group Stetsasonic. In the late 80s they launched the careers of De La Soul and Queen Latifah. Stepping into the 90s they released classic debut albums by Digital Undergound, Paris, House of Pain, Naughty By Nature, Coolio Capone-N-Noreaga and gave a young RZA his start as Prince Rakeem. For the 50th Anniversary of Hip-Hop Tommy Boy Records has compiled a 6xLP retrospective covering key singles from 1982 to 2001 with some 12-inch mix versions. While the label has stirred up some controversy in latter years, their catalog speaks for itself and was integral to bringing Hip-Hop to the masses in the early days and advancing Hip-Hop in the golden era.
