Pressed on A-Side/B-Side Double Colored Vinyl
Los Angeles-based rapper Drakeo The Ruler spent three years locked up on an attempted murder charge and was ultimately acquitted and released. During his time in prison, he used the prison phone system, GTL, to record verses which would be mixed by producer JoogSZN for his mixtape Thank You For Using GTL. Possibly inspired by other West Coast rappers like Mac Dre and X-Raided, who also recorded albums over prison phone lines, the album is cited as one of the greatest rap albums recorded in jail. Sadly, Drakeo was tragically murdered at a concert in 2001, but his legacy lives on through his music. The album was released digitally 5 years ago, on June 5, 2000, and is being re-released on vinyl for its 5th anniversary.
